When you ask your friends to help you move their brain quickly locks on every bad experience they have had and while they may help you some might find excuses not to help. Here are some things that might ease their mind.
Tell them that the house is either completely packed or will be.
Tell them how many people you will have helping, or hope to have.
Actually have a box count and tell them how many heavy things you have. The unknown is scarier than the known.
You could try my Moving Mob idea. It guarantees little work and little time commitment on your helper’s part.
And lastly, in a gutsy move that I haven’t quite figured out how to do, you somehow suggest that instead of gathering up the guys to move on a bright sunny saturday, a bunch of them could chip in $10 or $20 and you could hire help. This sounds like a cheap move but you were going to buy a few pizzas and beer to get free labor, that’s already cheap.
If you can pull off either of these last two moves please let me know how it went.

great ideas – I always have feed them – our last move was in January – in a snow storm – hot coffee, hot chocolate, homemade cinnamon rolls, chili and corn bread – and pizza and beer for the end of the day got us 7 strong guys and 7 really helpful women – you do what you gotta do – I love the move mob idea 🙂
