I fell into real estate like a lot of people do, by chance. I had graduated college with a BS in Psychology and had decided not to pursue further studies which left me a bit unsure of my path. A friend was creating a team with another friend (this was before teams were a big thing) and they needed an assistant. Like 90% of the population, I’d thought it might be interesting to get into real estate. Houses are sooooo pretty.
I’m realizing that this can get too long so I will keep it short as possible. Text me if you want to learn more – 503.597.8003
I started on a team in 2001 as an assistant. This is one of the best ways to get started in this career for 80% of you. I realized those weren’t the people I wanted to work with, or be like, and I left.
2002 I began my solo career at the same brokerage. I made more in six months than most new agents make in a year or two, even today. I made it because of a specific mindset that tapped into my strengths. I also had an assistant for about a year. It is very interesting being the assistant and managing an assistant. Lots of lessons there for me.
2003 I left that brokerage and went literally across the street to a national brokerage. Going through the end of a marriage made that tenure less than ideal.
Another friend offered me a Principal Broker position with his boutique firm in late 2005. I stayed there until the Great Recession decimated the office and we dropped down to 3 agents including myself.
In 2009 I moved to a brokerage where a friend had moved to, and we worked well together so I followed. It wasn’t a great fit with the Principal Broker. The Principal Broker is an often-ignored part of the decision of where to hang your license. Interview them! Don’t just let them interview you!
In 2011 my friend moved to a much better brokerage and I followed again after doing an interview. It was a great place and great people. I thought that was where I was going to end up for the rest of my career.
In 2015 I saw an experienced agent I knew that had joined a team. I was so surprised I had to ask some questions. It seemed so odd to me especially after my original experience with a team. What they had experienced with the correct team environment was how it can let you work in your strengths.
So, much to my surprise, in July of 2015 I joined a team, in a role different than what I ever imagined and it has been amazing.
I took the leap and life is great. Now I get to train and coach agents as part of my role as Director of Sales on a $50 million team. I found where I really thrive and get to share my experiences of the last 20 years. The last six have been an amazing view of high volume.
In August 2019 I started my real estate podcast. Just a place to drop all of the knowledge I’ve gained over the years. I’ve been lucky to have some fantastic guests join me as well.
In 2020 I took my years of experience and developed Roaring Agents, a free online training. The pandemic gave me a bunch of free time and I took advantage of it.
I started my real estate coaching business in 2021 for those that need more than just training. I love Roaring Agents and have poured a lot of love into it but sometimes transformation takes more than information. That’s where coaching comes in.
And that is the story so far.
