Many team leaders are High D’s. They are the ones that are driven, not put off by conflicts, embrace challenges and don’t really worry about what other people think or say. With their sense of challenge, they believe in the concept of “skin in the game.”
I don’t think I have heard anyone besides a High D mention “skin in the game.” One of the biggest fears of the D is being taken advantage of. To help hedge that bet, they want those around them to have risk while not understanding that D’s are the most comfortable with risk.
The people that they hire to support them and have the best profiles for that job are usually High S’s and sometimes C’s. High S’s love to support other people. They will give so much more than they will take which is sometimes a foreign concept to a D who will try to make the most out of any opportunity that they find.
The D likes to set up bonuses to ‘incentivize” the S not quite understanding that the true incentive for the S is the stability of the job and the people that they help. Structuring bonuses or other incentives, especially if they have no real control over the outcome or if it involves a job that they are not suited for, that feeling of stability will go away.
The High C’s are low-risk-takers as well. If the math and system doesn’t make sense, they will look for somewhere that it does.
In most cases, the biggest fear of each profile is their biggest weakness. I’ll talk about that in the next blog.
