This is a pretty cool program. Allison just had a tree put in her yard and was giddy to help out.
“During the 2007-08 planting season, more than 2,000 volunteers planted 1,852 street and yard trees in 62 Portland and Vancouver neighborhoods. Please visit our planting schedule to see if we’re planting in your neighborhood this year. We schedule all our plantings between November and April and set our planting schedule by late summer. To buy a tree for your neighborhood planting, tell us about your interest through our online tree order form by the deadline on the planting schedule. Friends of Trees only schedules plantings in neighborhoods with neighborhood coordinators. If you’d like to organize a planting in your neighborhood, please attend our summer Neighborhood Coordinator Training.”
Their planting season is over but I knew if I didn’t write about it now I might very well forget later. They pull the permit, have the city come out and find the lines (remember you have to contact the city before you dig- 811).
Start thinking if you want a tree or want to volunteer to make Portland greener.
