Craigslist has been used for another crime. The first one is good to alert the public so they may not get scammed. The most recent cost an Oregon man a lot. But I won’t describe it here so it doesn’t help perpetuate the crime/prank. And this is crime has been done before which shows that
I have had a hard time understanding why some news reports happen. Do we need to learn about the one flaw that got a criminal caught? Won’t this help someone not get caught in the future? Do they need to report that one car made in the 70’s has only 9 variations to the key so you have a 1 in 9 chance to steal that car?
Anyway, a man was victimized and stating how it happened helps no one and there is nothing any of us can do to stop this crime in the future. To someone with too much time on their hands they could replicate this chaos in seconds.
I just remembered that they don’t report suicides in the news. About a year or so ago a man jumped off a building downtown and not one station or paper reported it as far as I could see. If they realize that story isn’t news worthy than why can’t they ignore these kinds of stories that give criminals ideas but leave us no ways to protect ourselves? And that is the end of my rant.
I guess that isn’t the end of my rant. I got more annoyed and posted this on KGW:
If I recall correctly, it is standard for news outlets not to report on suicides. I assume because it does nothing for the public and maybe because it gives some celebrity which could cause someone to copycat.
I read the craigslist story where (edited out). Since there seems to be no way to protect ourselves from this kind of attack I don’t see the merit in publishing a story that gives malicious people ideas.
I think the story is not in the public interest.
