Real Estate Agent Trap #8 – No Mentor

This was another mistake I made and is especially easy working from home.

We all need that person that will call us on our BS. So many ideas sound great and when we ask our real estate friends, they want to be polite usually and say, “uh sure, sounds great.” Then we go on our merry way wasting time with an ill-planned idea with no accountability on execution.

But a coach or mentor will put you through your paces and make you explain why what you are doing will work and hold you accountable. They will see things from angles you didn’t see. You can still do what you want but having another perspective and some accountability can help you actually get things done.

And it doesn’t have to be a real estate coach or mentor. While some things are specific to real estate that only someone in real estate can comprehend, most things are concepts that outsiders can give great help with.

One time an architect friend was having a problem and called me just to take a break. They mentioned their problem and immediately a solution popped in my head but I told myself, “If it was that simple they would have already thought of it.” So I stayed silent.

Three hours later they were done and said the solution was exactly what I thought it was but it was too simple and they were overthinking it.

Go find that person and give them permission to kick your ass towards your dreams if you aren’t getting there on your own.
