“No amount of sophistication is going to allay the fact that all your knowledge is about the past and all your decisions are about the future.” – Ian E. Wilson

I often try to get across the idea that many people have opinions but they are really guesses based on the past. The Blazers make this point perfectly.

Before the season there was so much hope for success but not for the playoffs. The pundits and former NBA players knew we would be good with Greg Oden but not good enough, yet.

Then Oden was out for the season and they said our season was lost. Many losses later, few doubted it. Then Travis Outlaw made a last second shot to start and amazing winning streak. Cautiously we spoke of a season of more wins than last year and then whispers of a winning season..maybe even the playoffs. Barkley says no, as well as many highly paid former NBA players. Then…

You will have people too in love with the Blazers say we can win a championship with this squad. You will have people outside look at the statistics of the team. Age, experience and last year’s results say it is impossible.
The Blazers will have the season that they have regardless of what people think. It will just be. The people who were lucky enough to guess right will be looked upon for more great wisdom.

Not a single analyst predicted the streak. No one predicted that Brandon Roy would step up and show the maturity of a veteran in his second year. We got the right players for the right reasons and it is working out. Just like Michael Jordan wasn’t the right player at the time of the draft and that didn’t work out.

If you buy a home for the right reasons, it will most likely work out. And the market will chug along in whatever direction it wants.
