Question: Why Don’t Loan Officers Go To Closings?

Couldn't agree with you more. I'm happy to attend the signing appointment but have had less than a handful attended by loan officers.

One potential reason is that signings are usually put together in about a 12-hour period and you're trying to coordinate times that work for client, lender, agent, and title. Tough to do.

However, I wish more loan officers were instantly available by phone when you're deep in the signing appointment. I've had too many appointments stalled by questions about loan terms.

Sure, I get that they may not be able to get away with short notice but the three people that I can think of regularly made their closings with me, while others didn't bother to try to show up.

And then not to be available by phone? Horrible. That's why I tell people to think twice before using an internet bank or out of state company. So little control when they are 1000 miles away.

I personally try to attend the signing of all my purchases. Like you mentioned, there is a stack of paperwork that is from ME and my office. I need to be there to explain any intricacies that the loan my have.
Ron makes a great point that sometimes the docs will go out, and everyone will need to align their schedules for a signing very quickly, sometimes within the same day! When this happens, prior commitments can keep you away. The most important thing an LO can do in this situation is keep his phone on, and know when the signing is in progress. Answering that phone to explain something is better than nothing in such a situation.

Oh yes.. One last thing… I also like to go to signing so I can bring back the docs personally to my funding department to assure a faster funding! I don’t even like to wait on a courier. Lol. I may be a bit of a control freak, but that can be a good thing!

That's fantastic Bryan. Good to hear who out there cares about their clients. I have heard there is a 65% drop in mortgage brokers. I have to imagine a lot of them were the bad guys, or I at least hope so.
