Instead Of AC Try A Whole House Fan

by Mike on May 28, 2009

I am reposting this from last year and think it is worthy to be posted every year. This is a cheaper alternative to air condition for installation and in use.

I love clever ideas but I seem to be one of the few who didn’t know about this efficient solution to cooling off a home. I came across this about three weeks ago when I listed the home on Huntington. They have a powerful fan that could either quickly bring in cool air or generate a fantastic breeze through the windows.

I was showing the home and the buyer turned the fan on. I opened the sliding glass door and the wind was rushing in stronger than any breeze I have felt.  My clients said that you can’t leave it on for long in the night because it would be too cold before long.

In the Pacific NW there are few days where we really need AC.  With the whole house fan even on the really hot days you would have a great breeze throughout the home. A typical unit is priced from about $200-$400 plus installation costs and ducting I would imagine.
